Way Out of Proportion…

Last semester in our drawing class, Kevin and I had some fun messing with anatomical proportions.

The Thing poster (in progress)

Another one of my all time favorite movies. I started this a little before finals last month and tinkered with it a little bit over winter break. No deadline. Just for fun. I wanted to try my hand at painting with the tablet.

Unfortunately, I can’t say it’s completed. The head needs touched up around the edges so it doesn’t look so “cut out,” some details need to be added, and I can’t decide what to do with the background. I’ve tried simulating the metal table texture behind his head, covering it with green slime, etc., but I wasn’t happy with any of that. For now I’ll just post it here for feedback and get crackin’ on the onslaught of school projects that have already started to pile up.

All of this was hand drawn (using my trusty tablet). Here’s what I used for reference:

The Calm

Happy New Year, whoever reads this! I hope the holidays were good to you.

After almost three weeks of doing nothing* I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. I have a few little projects/experiments to share here (coming soon) and I’m bracing myself for what will assuredly be the most challenging and rewarding semester yet.

I’m trying to graduate by fall 2012 and in order to make that happen, I’ve had to pick up the pace, in terms of my course load. For the past few years I’ve been a part-time student taking, at most, three classes per semester (with the occasional fourth not-so demanding course thrown in) because I’ve also been trying to get as many hours at work as possible to continue paying bills and such. This semester, though, I’m scheduled to take five courses and each one of them is a pretty big deal. Here’s the course list:

Selected Life Drawings (October-November 2010)

Last month Kevin and I found some free life drawing workshops at Herron and ever since, we’ve been trying to drop in as much as possible. Tuesday nights are gesture drawing (some 3 min poses & 25 min poses from 7pm-10pm) and Thursday nights are single-pose drawing (also from 7pm-10pm).
